A popular notion of success is that it entails being
able to afford a the luxury of hiring others to mow your lawn, wash your car,
or clean your house- in other words to have servants. Jesus turns this thinking
on it’s head by teaching that the highest goal in life is not having servants
but being a servant.
Could it be that the reason He places such a high
value in serving is because it is centered on other rather than the self? Isn’t
this unselfish behavior the essence of effective Christian living? Serving is
therefore the opposite of selfishness

said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny
themselves and take up their cross and follow me
